Family Libellulidae
Bradinopyga geminata
(Rambur 1842)
ELevation Sea-level to 1400m
Abdomen 26-29mm
Usually seen on rocks near rivers or cement water tanks. A very well camouflaged insect, usually it is only seen when it moves. It is called the Granite Ghost because of its cryptic coloration. It is found all over India, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. I recently photographed it at the old palace, Rani Mahal, near Tansen. It seems to prefer cement tanks and walls near water. Males and females are very similar, but I don't seem to have a female photo. The bicolored pterostigma in the wing is a good ID mark. Males seem to darken with age.
